What is the church of Christ?

Jesus' church was more than just a weekly social gathering. It was a community so rooted in the love of Christ and in their bond with each other, that they enjoyed fellowship with each other on a daily bases. They were a family and it is this family that we are trying to be, united in Jesus, edified and instructed by his word, and sowing the message of Christ to everyone in our area so that they may share in that fellowship and the fellowship of God.

Today many are seeking for God and eternal salvation. They want assurance that their home will be forever settled in Heaven with the Almighty. Not knowing where to turn, they ask a friend or turn to the radio or TV to find the solutions to life's problems and find spiritual direction. Often the answer they receive from these sources falls short of the Lord's teaching on salvation and eternal life.

The Word of God is perfect, inspired by the Holy Spirit and has been left for all of man to obey (2 Timothy 3:16). Jesus Christ and Him crucified is what we preach and uphold. Each congregation of the church of Christ makes the one body of people who have obeyed the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ and continue in His doctrine. We seek not man's wisdom, but rather God's direction for salvation. The GOOD NEWS is available for all who are willing to be obedient. The apostle Paul said on one occasion to the church at Corinth, "Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein you stand; by which also you are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain." 1 Corinthians 15:1

We only teach, preach and believe what God has revealed. We do not hold to any man made doctrines, creeds or ways of worship. Worship is commanded by God and for God and we have no say in the matter. Anything we do as the church must obey the authority of Scripture (Colossians 3:17.)

We worship in song, the fruit of our lips (Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16; Hebrews 13:15)
We give as we have prospered financially, every first day of the week (1 Corinthians 16:1-2; 2 Corinthians 9:6-7)
We remember the Lord's death in communion every first day of the week (Acts 20:7; 1 Corinthians 11:23-26)
We pray to the Father for all things, through Jesus Christ (Acts 2:42; 1 Corinthians 1:4; 1 Thessalonians)
We preach the commands of God and proclaim the whole counsel of His Word ( Mark 16:15-16; Acts 20:7; 2 Timothy 4:2)

When a body of people obey the commands of The Lord, in the manner in which He instructed, in complete submission to Him, they are the church of Christ. It is not merely a name on a building, but the identity of being a Christian.

Friends, we are part of the church which began in the New Testament. We are simply Christians and nothing more. Jesus Christ is our Lord.
